Contains a short memoir detailing Hess's military experiences. Discusses his induction, decision to enlist in the Air Corps, and his participation in the first crew to train with the new B-29 Superfortress Bomber. Describes his duties while stationed on the Mariannas Islands, and a crash landing on Iwo Jima in his B-29 that nearly killed the entire crew. Also mentions his involvement with the LDS Church while training in Denver, CO, and his correspondence with Harold B. Lee. Contains a chart of the 39th Bomb Squadron's operational history.
